This is piece is one of those that I started with a particular vision in mind, yet the process organically took me to an unexpected result. For many artists specially expressionist or abstract modern artists this is actually the regular method they use: the piece reveals organically itself without much previous though or preparation.

In my case I start with very detailed sketches, and by the time I start to apply the ink or the color I already have had enough time to have an idea of the colors or the mood the character of the whole piece will have. So in that regard, this piece ended up being a particular one for me.

This character is more a explorer kind than a warrior, I tried to show a bit of the world she belongs to with a foreshortening posture instead of a more powerful gesture. I wanted to use only color ink pen and though in a palette maybe dark or soft cool winter like palette, with a more comic-like drawing style, and off I went.

Applying the ink layers, I felt the colors were not satisfying for what this character was requiring: her expression after passing from pencil to pen became less serious and more optimistic -to me-, so I re-evaluate the color palette, the sky changed in my mind, instead of a dark background I tested with a vivacious blue sky and then with more light and blue sky available her metallic parts also got lively and instead of being maybe rusty and opaque as I though, became somewhat chromed plated.

Materials: Ink pen, color crayons and a bit of acrylic. This is a small piece made using A4 white 250g/m2 paper sheet.

I think it was an interesting exercise, I think I would practice more with the Sky as a character in my future drawings.

Esta es una de esas piezas que empiezo teniendo una visión inicial en mi mente, sin embargo el proceso organicamente me llevó a un resultado inesperado. Para muchos artistas en efecto este sería el metodo a usar siempre, es decir, la pieza se va revelando al artista de forma orgánica sin tanta preparación o visión previa, especialmente los artistas expresionistas o abstractos trabajan mas de esa forma.

En mi caso, empiezo con bocetos muy detallados, entonces ya para el momento en el que empiezo a aplicar tinta o color, he tenido tiempo suficiente para imaginar los colores o el estado de animo que el personaje o el dibujo entero van a tener. Por eso, en este sentido, esta pieza terminó siendo particular para mi.

Este personaje es más una exploradora que una guerrera o una vestal, traté de mostrar un poquito del mundo en el que habita con una postura más de escorzo, menos impositiva. Quería usar solo lapiceros de tinta de color y había pensado en una paleta oscura o fría como de invierno, y con un estilo más de ilustración de comic y por allí empezé…

Aplicando ya las capas de tinta, sentí que los colores no estaban acordes con lo que el personaje estaba pidiendo. Su expresión después de pasar del lápiz a la tinta pasó a ser menos seria y más optimista, así que revisé la paleta de colores, cambié la idea que tenía para el cielo, probé con un azul más vivo. Con más luz en el cielo, las partes metálicas del personaje también tuvieron más vivacidad y en vez de ser quizás más oxidadas y opacas como las había pensado, pasaron a ser cromadas. 

Materiales: Lapiceros de tinta, creyones de colores y un poquito de acrílico. Esta es una pieza pequeña hecha sobre papel blanco grueso de 250g/m2  de tamaño A4. 

Fue un ejercicio interesante, siento que voy a practicar más con el Cielo en el futuro.
